Children's Program Charter
Goals
- To provide for a dharma centered program for the children of the sangha.
- To provide the children of the sangha with resources to learn and experience the dharma.
- To advocate for children as practitioners, as an integral part of the sangha, and as future teachers of the karma Kagyu lineage.
Activities
- Create a general curriculum and individual lessons in alignment with KCC's vision.
- Maintain children's dharma lesson materials and files.
- Plan yearly events that include or focus on children (e.g. Bodhisattva night, Buddha's birthday camp-out).
- Create a budget and deliver to the board for approval.
- Monitor use of the children's program resources and prepare a periodic report to be submitted to the board.
- Maintain a dharma book collection for the children's program.
- Recruit and support teachers and other volunteers.
- Network with other Buddhist children's programs in the Portland area and inform sangha of related events (for example: Dharma Rains summer camp).
Communication
- Communicate with the sangha about the children's program needs and opportunities (announcements, newsletter, etc.).
- Report to the board on a quarterly basis giving a summary of activities and use of resources.
Population
- The nominating committee will appoint a coordinator. The commitment for this position will be a minimum of 1 year. At the request of the coordinator, the nominating committee will assist in staffing the committee.
- The board will appoint a board member to serve as liaison between the committee and the board.
