KCC Policies
Policy for Board@kcc.org
Revised January 23, 2001
A listserv (list server) is basically an Internet e-mail address that forwards any e-mail sent to it to a predefined list of other Internet e-mail addresses. So by sending an e-mail to board@kcc.org, you will actually be sending an e-mail to everyone who is subscribed to the listserv. This includes all the members of KCC's board of directors, the executive director, and the resident lama.
You get on the list by "subscribing" to it. To subscribe to the board listserv . Please identify the listserv that you want to subscribe to (board@kcc.org) and include the e-mail address to which you want the listserv to send you e-mail.
KCC has established this listserv as an experiment to allow an open format of communication as the board of directors goes about conducting its business. This communication will also be helpful for committee members, especially coordinators, who are encouraged to participate when topics relate to the work they are doing on their committee.
Any members of KCC who are interested in these communications are invited to subscribe to the board@kcc.org listserv. If you choose to do so, the members of the board respectfully request that you consider the following limitations.
- Please understand that these communications are often a work in progress. They are ways to exchange thoughts and information. Just as people's thinking may change over time, new information may come to light later. Such changes are not always reflected in subsequent e-mails.
- It is the board's intention to not make decisions on-line that deserve further consideration by the board meeting in person. And also, not every decision made will be discussed on a listserv.
- At times the entire discussion of an issue or the history behind a statement may not be represented in the e-mails sent to a listserv. We realize there is a significant risk for misunderstanding here, and ask those who choose to subscribe to be mindful of this.
- The board@kcc.org listserv is primarily intended as a tool for board members to do their work in an open format. Given the limitations of e-mail that we have already discussed above, please consider whether using the listserv or talking to a board member in person would best serve your intentions in offering an opinion, making a suggestion, or clarifying an issue.
Finally, we are viewing this form of communication as an experiment. It is possible that these guidelines for participation, or even the purpose of the listserv, may change over time.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, and welcome to the boad@kcc.org listserv. If you have any concerns or ideas to help this work, please contact a member of the Board of Directors.
