In 2012 the teachers at KCC will present the three major cycles of the Buddha’s teachings which are referred to in the Tibetan tradition as the “Three Turnings”. These sets of teachings provide a way to understand the progression of the teachings and practices of the Dharma from the most fundamental principles to the most subtle perspectives and practices. This introduction will provide some historical background, but the main emphasis will be an overview of how each of the Three Turnings provides a distinct approach to overcoming the tyranny of the kleshas— the fundamental ignorance and the habitual emotional patterns that flow from it.
For those who participated in the previous series of teachings and retreats on the Three Turnings, the 2012 program will offer a chance to not only refresh your understanding of the basics but to go deeper into each of the Three Turnings in classes and guided study groups. The classes and study groups will be complemented with related meditation instruction by Lama Michael throughout the year at the regular group meditation sessions and during retreats. The suggested donation for attending this class is $30. However, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
