Mirik Practice Schedule in 2004
The following information was provided in conversations and email with Eric Triebelhorn in Mirik, India.
Friday, August 20, 2004 Rinpoche's body, which is packed in a box, was carried around the monastery in kora (circumambulation). Later, to everyone's amazement, many people discovered relics on the ground. They looked like coarse salt grains or pearls.
Saturday there was a huge rainbow around the sun. That night there was something similar around the moon.
As we had heard earlier, Gyaltsap Rinpoche (one of the principle regents of the Karma Kagyu Lineage) arrived in Mirik immediately. Many others have been streaming in. Monks from Ralang (Gyaltsab Rinpoche's monastery) and Rumtek (Karmapa's seat), both in Sikkim, are there. Drupon Rinpoche is also there. People we know from Taiwan and Hong Kong are there, and others from around the world.
Prayers are going on from 5 am until 9 pm (4:30 pm until 8:30 am Pacific Time). The ceremonies are being held in the teaching hall of the new monastery.
Tomorrow they will start a week of Gyalwai Gyamtso (Red Chenrezig) practice. The schedule for the main pujas is:
- Week 1 (August 16-22) Vajrasattva
- Week 2 (August 23-29) Gyalwai Gyamtso
- Week 3 (August 30 - September 5) Zhi Tro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)
- Week 4 (September 6-12) Kalachakra
- Week 5 (September 13-19) Chakrasamvara
- Week 6 (September 20-26) Vajrayogini
- Week 7 (September 27 - October 3) Kagyu Gurtsok (songs of realization by lineage masters, as in the book the Rain of Wisdom)
Note: the dates specified above are inferred from the information Eric gave us and may not be completely accurate.
Evening Prayers
Prayers are being offered each evening in Mirik, recited in the following order.
- Calling the Guru from Afar by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye
- Guru Yoga of Bokar Rinpoche by HH 17th Karmapa
- Two Vajra Songs of Realization by Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche
- The Prayer for Noble Conduct
- Aspirations for Mahamudra by Rangjung Dorje, Karmapa III
- Prayers for the Swift Return of Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche
Both Gyaltsab Rinpoche and His Holiness Karmapa have said that Rinpoche's reincarnation will come soon.
