Practice and Work Retreat - July 19-23

SCOL Kitchen Complex
Long retreat kitchen complex

(arriving in the late afternoon of the 19th).

Land Stewards are organizing this event to accomplish removal of bitter brush from the fire protection areas that we are thinning this year, AND to support our dharma practice for the benefit of all beings.

We will work a longer session in the morning hours and a second shorter session in the early evening since we expect it to be hot mid-days during that part of July. We will be cutting the brush and transporting it to future burn piles. Other jobs will be available as
well, to entertain our needs for diverse activity.

The practice schedule will be early morning shamata, and then 3 hours in the afternoon to do our individual practices. In the evening we will also do a group Chenrezig puja.

Our hope is to carry our practice into our work, incorporating awareness and  compassion for ourselves and all beings. We will remind each other to pace ourselves and to work in mindful ways.

If you have questions about whether you feel fit enough for the work, or any other questions, please get in touch. Also, we could use the support of a dedicated cook if anyone is inclined. Otherwise we will take turns cooking the meals.

You must let us know if you are thinking of coming to all or part of the event. More details will be available after we know who is coming.

Karen Wallace will be out at the land next week, July 6,7,8 to guide
anyone who wants to start on the work before the retreat, or if you
can't fit the retreat into your schedule. While brush removal is
ongoing, this year the land stewardship task is to complete fire safety
goals in the 30 acres that surround the long retreat site. Any help you
can give, at anytime this summer and fall, will be a great support
towards the effort of protecting our retreat center.

Thanks so much and please contact us for more information. Karen
Wallace and Karen N. are coordinating the event, but you can also talk
to Dora about the thinning and fire safety project in general.
