Land Stewardship

The benefits of caring for the land will extend far beyond our own lifetimes.”

Dora DeCoursey, Land Steward

KCC land stewardship includes coordinating KCC members and groups like Americorps to plant trees, water seedlings, and maintain bud caps that keep deer from eating tender shoots.

In 2003, with support of a federal grant, we planted more than 11,000 trees and shrubs along the land’s three streams.

In Spring 2005, with help of a new grant, our focus turns toward thinning selected areas for forest health and fire safety. Burning slash is an annual, on-going project from November—March.

Wildlife on the land includes coyote, porcupine, bobcat, deer, elk, rabbit, and at least 52 bird species.
